The Russian Orthodox Church plans to transfer some Ukrainian prisoners to Hungary, although this decision has not been agreed with Ukraine. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to informed sources.
According to one of the interlocutors, the Russian Orthodox Church and its Patriarch Kirill (Gundyaev) are going to hand over at least 11 Ukrainian prisoners of war to Hungary. The charitable organization Maltese Relief Service of the Sovereign Order of Hospitallers is to act as one of the intermediaries.
The transfer of prisoners of war has not been agreed with Ukraine, and its expediency is explained by the “Transcarpathian origin” of the soldiers. It is important to understand that all of these military personnel are Ukrainian citizens, and therefore their transfer to any third country is impossible without the consent and direct involvement of Ukraine.
As the source explained, the purpose of this action is to restore the lost legitimacy of the Russian church, which is subject to extensive international sanctions. Its patriarch is trying to use the authority of other states and the international reputation of the Maltese Aid Service. Russia also intends to once again play the so-called “Hungarian card” and actualize imaginary problems such as “Transcarpathian separatism,” the source added.
Another goal is to delegitimize the process of prisoner of war exchange. Of course, the release of any Ukrainian citizen from racist captivity is a positive event. But the uncontrolled transfer of our military to other countries is a dangerous path. Even though respected international organizations are involved in this
