The Government of Ukraine is considering suspending the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers and the Government of Israel on the abolition of the visa regime between the two countries. As the Kyiv Post reports, citing sources in the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is already preparing a corresponding submission to the Cabinet of Ministers.
Consideration of the application is scheduled for the coming weeks
The source says.
“The main reason is Israel’s systematic unfriendly actions toward Ukraine and its de facto pro-Russian position in the international arena after Russia’s full-scale invasion,” explains a source at the National Security and Defense Council.
In addition, Ukraine initiates the exclusion of Israel from the Ramstein meetings, where Ukraine and its allies negotiate arms supplies. The Ukrainian government is concerned that Israeli representatives at the meeting are passing information to Russia:
The information obtained during the meetings is used by Israel in its own interests. And most importantly, there is a real danger that this information may fall into the hands of the aggressor state.”
In addition, the Israeli government refused to provide military assistance to Ukraine. And 10% of Ukrainians who tried to enter the country were detained at the airport without explanation and deported.
“Instead, Israel is trying to get security guarantees from us for its citizens who make pilgrimages to the grave of Tzadik Nachman in Uman. It is impossible to provide these guarantees during constant rocket attacks,” the source explains.
Every September, tens of thousands of Hasidic Jews come to the city of Uman, Cherkasy Oblast, to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko did not confirm this information in a comment to the Kyiv Post.
Also Kyiv Post also asked the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine for comment.
