Finland to demolish Russian Consulate General and build a kindergarten in its place

In Finland, a kindergarten will be built on the site of the Russian Consulate General. Turku authorities have bought the building of the former diplomatic mission, Channel 24 reports .

The city council adopted the relevant decision on November 27. The building of the former Russian Consulate General will be purchased for 1.6 million euros. The house has a considerable area of 2,000 square meters.

Turku buys the former Russian Consulate General

The property is now owned by the Senate’s state real estate department. The former Russian diplomatic mission is to be demolished. A new building will be erected on the site of the Turku consulate, most likely a kindergarten.

But before that, the territory of the former Russian Consulate General will be cleaned up. The fact is that in the early 20th century, a galvanizing plant and a foundry were located on this site.

As a reminder, on October 1, Finland revoked the work permit of the Russian Consulate General in Turku. This was a mirror image of the closure of the Finnish Consulate General in St. Petersburg.
