On July 19, 2023, most Ukrainian and even some foreign media outlets published information that allegedly“The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, called the nighttime explosion of an ammunition depot in Crimea a successful operation of his department and the Armed Forces.”
The journalists referred to the telegram channel “Kyrylo Budanov 🇺🇦 Kyrylo Budanov“, which had nothing to do with the head of military intelligence, which can be easily verified on the official and verified pages of the DIU.
However, the news forced intelligence representative Andriy Yusov to issue an official denial, after which some media outlets removed the news and others changed the text to refute it.
The comment, allegedly on behalf of Kirill Budanov, that the explosion at the training ground in Crimea was the work of the Armed Forces and the GUR is a fake. All our official pages are available on the website of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine

We checked the history of the channel and found that it was sold around mid-April 2023.
The channel changed its nickname.
Its name also changed.
You can also track the history of changes to its description. And if you look even deeper, you’ll find a link to the monobank of a person who was probably the channel’s administrator before the sale.
As we can see, after the publicity and numerous complaints, the channel was labeled as fake by the platform. However, they continue to post articles that are supposed to convince readers that the channel is real and that the mark was caused by “complaints from Russian bots.”
For this reason, we believe it is necessary to emphasize the need to verify information and its sources primarily by media professionals. We also publish a list of official pages of the GUR and Kirill Budanov.
