What things to pack in an anxiety suitcase

You should pack the most necessary things and documents in your suitcase, namely:

  • passport and copies of all necessary documents in plastic packaging
  • Money (bank cards and cash; distribute banknotes in different places)
  • a paper version of the COVID certificate
  • keys to the apartment and car
  • a map of the area, as well as information on how to communicate and the agreed meeting place for your family
  • mobile phone chargers and power banks
  • radio receiver
  • flashlight, matches, lighter, candles
  • spare push-button telephone, set of walkie-talkies
  • compass, watch (preferably waterproof mechanical)
  • spare batteries
  • a multifunctional tool (multitool) that has a knife blade, awl, screwdriver, scissors, etc.
  • sharpened knife, axe
  • whistle, flare
  • garbage bags
  • roll of wide adhesive tape
  • notebook, pen, pencil or marker
  • water purification tablets
  • threads, needles
  • synthetic cord (thickness – 4-5 mm, about 20 m long)
  • first aid kit
  • warm clothes
  • underwear and socks
  • reliable comfortable shoes, preferably waterproof
  • tent, carimat, sleeping bag (if space permits)
  • hygiene products
  • utensils (pot, flask, spoon, mug)
  • two liters of drinking water per person (this amount should cover your minimum needs for two days, and not make your anxiety suitcase too heavy)
  • food for two days
  • scanned archive of photos and documents

You should also put a note with your name and contacts in the top or side pocket in case you lose your backpack. If possible, bring photos of your family or those you will be with all the time – this will help you find them if the group gets separated.

After you pack your things, try lifting your backpack and walking with it. If it’s too heavy, be sure to optimize its contents: it’s important to get it to the shelter without any problems.

The child should put notes in his backpack and pocket with his name, year of birth, home address, planned destination, and information about his parents – names and contacts. Explain to your child when and how to use this note.
