Populism is just a style of communication. And in this sense, no matter which government comes to power, we can see perfectly well that the US has changed its government, Germany has changed its government, but in the end, the state remains the same, with the same risks and challenges.
This was emphasized by Yaroslav Bozhko, Chairman of the Center for Political Studies “Doktryna”, on May 27 at the expert roundtable “Ways to Strengthen Ukraine’s Social Resilience: Values-Based Expertise”. As part of this event, which took place in Kyiv, leading Ukrainian experts stated the most pressing problems of Ukraine’s defense capability.
The event was organized by the Conservative Platform (a joint project of the NGO “Foundation for Promotion of Democracy” and the Hanns Seidel Foundation in Ukraine) and the Ukrainian Security Club.
During the discussion, the expert emphasized that the challenges faced by states can be approached in different ways, but all governments need high-quality and professional policies. And even if a voter sometimes does not vote for it, it still reaches the state if it is a properly formed state. If, of course, there is interaction with the scientific and expert community, with the conditional public sector. As well as with the security and defense forces, which are now becoming a source of many decisions and legal frameworks in their own right and are turning not only into a power structure, but often into an analytical mega-structure, and are increasingly realizing that they need an analytical component.
Yaroslav Bozhko is convinced that in the future, the influence of qualified representatives of the security and defense forces on decision-making in Ukraine will increase. And we are talking about legitimate democratic practices. In other words, for the first time in a long time, these representatives at the middle management level will be able to be not only executors, but also people who offer concepts of a vision of the policy and the situation in the country, based on the fact that they understand that the process of resumption of hostilities or their expansion is possible, or both.
In the context of a constant military threat, it is vital to take into account the security component when making decisions and to involve people who are competent in this area. That is why the expert roundtable“Ways to Strengthen Ukraine’s Social Resilience: Values-Based Expertise” brought together experts from various fields who are able to develop a unified multidisciplinary vision of Ukraine’s development.
