Vadym Steshenko returned from captivity to Okhtyrka
On Saturday, those who do not lose hope gathered again on the central square of Okhtyrka.
For several years now, every Saturday, they have been coming here with photos, posters, prayers – with hearts full of pain and faith. Those who have relatives in Russian captivity.
Among them is Mr. Mykola Steshenko.
For many months he held a photo of his son Vadym, a captured Ukrainian soldier. And today is a day of great joy. Vadym has returned from Russian captivity. But even this good news did not stop Mr. Mykola. He came to the event again.
He said:
– I couldn’t help but come. Because my Vadym is back, but many more guys are still there. I know what it’s like to wait. And I know what it’s like to wait. Now I will come here with my son. And we will support those who are still waiting…
Now Vadym is undergoing rehabilitation. He has not yet seen his family. But his return is a ray of hope for hundreds of other families. It is proof that prayers are answered, that the fight goes on, that life wins.
During a short conversation with Mr. Mykola, it was hard to contain my emotions. There was no time for microphones – his voice was trembling, his eyes were shining. It was a quiet, sincere joy of a father mixed with pain for other children who are still waiting for rescue. And I would like to say to everyone who now doubts whether there is any point in these actions, in letters, in public appeals.
Є!
Because it is thanks to the persistent efforts of families and activists, thanks to joint prayer and pressure from those who care, that Ukrainian prisoners are returning home.
One by one.
Each name is a separate story, a separate struggle. And so we will wait. All of them.
Vadim is back, and we are celebrating.
But there are still many hugs to come. There are many meetings that need to take place. And they will happen.
Because we are together. And we are strong.
