The SBU jointly with the State Bureau of Investigations with the assistance of the Ministry of Justice detained a Russian agent in Kyiv region. It was an official of one of the penal colonies in the capital region who collaborated with the FSB.
What do you know about the attacker’s activities?
According to the investigation, he passed on to the occupiers information about former prisoners who are currently serving in the assault units of the Defense Forces on the front line. In particular, the Russian side was interested in the personal data of ex-convicts, the dates of their release, and the military units where they perform combat missions.
The FSB planned to use the information obtained to determine the locations of Ukrainian units and attempts to recruit soldiers. To collect intelligence, the agent used official documents containing information about ex-prisoners and their distribution to the front.
The suspect was detained red-handed while trying to hand over another report to his Russian supervisor. At the same time, measures were taken to secure the positions of the Defense Forces.
During the searches, five cell phones and replacement SIM cards, which he used for secret communication, were seized from him.
According to the investigation, in exchange for cooperation, the agent was promised “evacuation” to the temporarily occupied Luhansk, from where he moved to Kyiv region in 2014.
What is the punishment?
He was served a notice of suspicion under part. 2 Art. 111 of the CCU (high treason committed under martial law).
