In the Russian military units of the Black Sea Fleet, systematic cases of abuse of Ukrainians from the temporarily occupied territories who were illegally drafted in the fall of 2023 have been recorded. This became known from the materials of the I Want to Live project .

According to the project, the command of one of the units of the Russian Black Sea Fleet deliberately appointed servicemen of Caucasian origin to sergeant positions, who systematically abuse recruits from Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.

Among the methods of “education” are throwing training grenades into sleeping quarters during wake-up calls and deliberately damaging the personal belongings of soldiers. The situation is exacerbated by problems typical of the Russian army, such as poor nutrition, insufficient material support and constant psychological pressure from the command.

It is worth recalling that any conscription or mobilization campaign in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine is a violation of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War. The occupying authorities are prohibited from forcing the local population to serve in their armed forces.

The project “I Want to Live” calls on illegally mobilized Ukrainians to save their lives and offers assistance in returning to the territory controlled by Ukraine through the official channel @spasisebyabot.

It should be reminded that in Ukraine, illegally mobilized citizens from the occupied territories are not considered traitors, as they are victims of a war crime by Russia.
