The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported the detention of a lawyer who actively cooperated with the Russian military intelligence (GRU). The detainee acted as a recruiter of agents for the GRU and at the same time acted in courts in defense of already exposed enemy agents.
Details of the case:
- Recruitment: The lawyer was recruited in 2015 during a meeting with Russian intelligence officer Vitaly Naumov on the territory of the Russian Federation.
- Activities during the invasion: Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, the lawyer has been actively recruiting new agents and passing information to the GRU, including information about SBU officers and materials of criminal proceedings.
- Monetary reward: For completing tasks, he received money through anonymous transfers.
- Searches and evidence: A cell phone with evidence of communications with Russian special services was seized from the detainee.
Criminal charges:
- The lawyer was charged with high treason under martial law (parts 1 and 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
- He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
