The new Christmas movie “See You Next Christmas”, released on Netflix, features the Ukrainian restaurant Anelya, which is located in Chicago and is included in the Michelin Guide. In the movie, the character Teddy says that he worked at this restaurant, and other characters praise his culinary skills, recalling the main character’s birthday celebration at Anelya, reports ua.news reports.

The restaurant was founded by chefs Johnny Clark and Beverly Kim and dedicated to Ukrainian cuisine. The name of the restaurant honors Clark’s grandmother, Anela Ochatynska, who survived World War II and emigrated to the United States. After the outbreak of war in Ukraine, Johnny Clark actively supported Ukrainian culture through charitable projects and employment of Ukrainian refugees.

The restaurant’s concept is a modern interpretation of traditional Ukrainian cuisine. Dishes include banosh; dumplings with comte cheese and saffron sauce; vegetarian stuffed cabbage in coconut and garlic sauce; and jelly that reminds Clark of his grandmother and her stories about the Holodomor.

The menu also offers snacks such as sandwiches, pickled vegetables, caviar and smoked fish. Drinks are exclusively from Eastern Europe, including vodka and tinctures.

The mention of Anelya restaurant in the Netflix movie emphasizes the global importance of Ukrainian culture and cuisine. This not only increases its popularity in the world, but also draws attention to the rich gastronomic heritage of Ukraine.
