SBU CI detained in Kharkiv a 72-year-old mechanical scientist who was helping the Russian military-industrial complex. The man was developing drawings for the improvement of Shahed-type kamikaze drones, in particular for the modernization of their engines and catapult launchers, at the request of Russian customers.

The investigation established that the detainee remotely transferred the developments to his acquaintance, the CEO of a Russian machine-building plant specializing in the production of drones. Under the guise of scientific papers, he sent data via e-mail and messengers.

In addition, he involved his former student, who left for Russia after the war began and is now working on developing drones for the Russian armed forces at the Moscow Technological University.

Computers, a phone and other media with evidence of cooperation with the aggressor were seized from the detainee. He was served a notice of suspicion under the article on aiding the aggressor state, which carries a sentence of up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property. It is also planned to serve a notice of suspicion in absentia to his accomplice, who is hiding in Russia.
