A number of Ukrainian media outlets with linking to Interfax-Ukraine spread the news that allegedly “assistance to Ukrainian refugees will be gradually canceled in 2024”. This information is disseminated with reference to the statement of the representative of the Polish government, Piotr Mueller, in a interview with PAP agency.

However, this is a false report.

In the original, Polish government spokesman Piotr Mueller said:

The stage when Ukrainians fled their country en masse is over. Therefore, these decisions (on financial assistance to Ukrainians) will be gradually canceled.

When asked when this would happen, he noted that, Probably in the first quarter of 2024. And that the reason for this will be that, in his opinion, there will be no need for this.

We believe that the fact that our colleagues did not specify two key clarifications – that the representative of the Polish government thinks that the aid will disappear, and that the first quarter is the likely date of cancellation – is too significant not to be mentioned in publications.

This is all the more important in the context of the tension that objectively exists around relations between Poland and Ukraine, which is fueled by Russia.
