December 19, 2024 The research and analytical group InfoLight.UA presented the results of monitoring the use of statements of Ukrainian public figures by Russian propaganda. We analyzed over 500 thousand news items from Russian media. According to the study, in the first half of December, the most quoted speakers were Artem Dmytruk, Oleksandr Dubinsky, Andriy Yermak, Maryana Bezuhla and Diana Panchenko. Their statements were actively used for manipulation.
It is worth noting that Diana Panchenko has rapidly broken into the top of our rating. According to the Osavul platform, which we use in our research, the following trend can be observed.
It’s easy to see that Panchenko’s active presence coincidentally coincides with the final of the US presidential race and has been at the same level since Donald Trump’s victory.
What does Panchenko write about? We did a content analysis of her article and identified three key themes: corruption, mobilization, and the illegitimacy of Volodymyr Zelenskyy as President.
We were surprised to see an actual copy of the fake news from 2022, only then “Budanov was exporting weapons by ship,” and now Zelensky is exporting cash. It is impossible to understand why they would do this under the threat of destroying such a valuable cargo. After all, Odesa is located in the strike zone of very accurate and fast ballistic weapons, and if Russia knew about it, it would definitely strike. On the other hand, what prevents it from being exported through diplomatic channels through Romania, for example?
Another typical example is manipulations around corruption scandals. Panchenko savor the real ones, invent non-existent ones, or add emotional details. As, for example, in the photo. Where there is a hint that such corruption crimes are actually being committed with the assistance of Western authorities.
According to our analysis, Panchenko’s activities are part of a general Russian information campaign that prepares the ground for a change of power in Washington to try to force the new White House administration to withdraw its support for Ukraine through public opinion.
We are taking the activities of this pro-Russian propagandist under additional control, as she is likely to play a key role in Russia’s disinformation campaign.
