The updated version of the Claude chatbot 3.5 Sonnet can now read and analyse PDF files , including graphs, tables , and charts. The developers claim that Claude can process up to 100 pages of a document in one go, making the analysis process much more efficient.
This is stated on the Facebook page of theGlobal Network of Investigative Journalists.
What can Claude do with PDFs?
- Recognises graphs and charts. The bot identifies their structure and analyses the links to other parts of the document.
- Describes trends and key indicators. Claude highlights key trends and figures from graphical elements.
- Extracts numeric data. Chatbot can explain the statistics.
- Analyses tables. The bot not only reads data but also helps to understand its context.

- Ask them to analyse a specific part of the document.
- Specify the answers if necessary.
According to Dutch investigative journalist Henk Van Ess, Claude’s update is a breakthrough in PDF analysis: “Previously, chatbots were blind to visual elements , but now the analysis is easier and faster.”
