Military counterintelligence and SBU investigators, with the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Commander of the Special Operations Forces, detained the Russian mole. The offender turned out to be a lieutenant colonel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, commander of a unit of the Special Operations Forces, who was recruited by Russians before the start of the full-scale invasion.
It was activated by a Russian career officer in the spring of 2024, tasked with passing on information to the Russians about the combat operations of the Defense Forces. The enemy was particularly interested in data on sabotage and reconnaissance operations by Ukrainian special forces in the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Crimean regions.
The traitor used his official position to collect information about the routes of movement of Ukrainian troops, their weapons and targets. The occupiers planned to use this data to destroy the Ukrainian Special Forces.
He also passed on information about other units of the Defense Forces. The SBU special operation helped to document his crimes and detain the agent. At the same time, measures were taken to ensure the security of the Defense Forces units.
The defendant was recruited through his acquaintances in Russia. During the searches, the SBU seized means of secrecy, computer equipment, a mobile phone and data storage devices.
Investigators served him a notice of suspicion of high treason under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The offender is in custody and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
