A US missile base has been officially opened in Poland, located in the city of Redzikowo, just 230 kilometers from the border with Russia’s Kaliningrad region. The base is part of the US missile defense system and is designed to protect Europe from short-range (1000-3000 km) and intermediate-range (3000-5500 km) missiles – RMF24.
The base is equipped with the Aegis Ashore system, which is capable of detecting, tracking and destroying ballistic missiles at the initial stage of their flight. This is the second such system in Europe. It also includes Mk 41 VLS launchers and SM-3 (Standard Missile-3) anti-ballistic missiles.
During the ceremony, Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosińiak-Kamysz said that the opening of the base is of “historic importance for the security of Poland, the United States and NATO,” emphasizing the importance of air and missile defense, especially in the context of modern conflicts such as the war in Ukraine. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also emphasized that the base significantly strengthens the Alliance’s ability to defend against the growing threat of ballistic missiles from outside the Euro-Atlantic area.
Polish President Andrzej Duda emphasized the role of the United States as a guarantor of Poland’s security. The Kremlin, in turn, considers the base a threat to Russia, seeing it as an attempt to curb Russia’s military potential.
The Kremlin already sees this as an attempt to curb Russia’s potential.
