Russian special services have been tasked with physically eliminating Moldovan presidential candidate Alexandru Stoianoglo on the eve of the second round of elections.

According to sources in the Moldovan intelligence services, Moscow has changed its strategy in the elections and is betting on incumbent President Maia Sandu.

Sandu reportedly agreed to cooperate with the Kremlin in exchange for a number of concessions: non-interference from separatist regions, campaign financing, and promises of cheap gas supplies.

Her opponent, Alexandru Stoianoglo, who was previously considered a moderate politician, has recently taken a more independent stance. He declared his support for Ukraine and offered to sign a document on the irreversibility of Moldova’s European course.

According to sources, it was this position that provoked the Kremlin’s reaction: the FSB and the game were tasked with preparing an assassination attempt on the candidate.

Political expert Valentyn Gaidai explains: “The degree of tension in Moldovan politics on the eve of the second round of presidential elections has risen to its highest level. Obviously, we are talking no more or less about a possible turn of Chisinau towards Moscow.”

According to the analysis of the Intermarium Information Center, Alexandru Stoianoglo demonstrates a more pro-Ukrainian position and may be the best choice for strengthening Ukrainian-Moldovan relations.

The second round of the presidential election in Moldova is scheduled for November 3.

As a reminder, the confrontation with separatist Transnistria has recently escalated in Moldova, and pro-Russian sentiment in Gagauzia has increased.
