The head of the Ternopil district municipal military commissariat was notified of suspicion, the SBI reported. They noted that the official allegedly demanded a bribe from an entrepreneur for a deferral from mobilization – coupons for a thousand liters of diesel fuel.
Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation detained the official on October 21, 2024, after receiving fuel coupons. They found USD 13 thousand and UAH 73 thousand in his car.
According to law enforcement, the military commissar demanded a bribe from the entrepreneur for a postponement of military service. The entrepreneur, who is a full-time university student, is legally entitled to a deferment. However, the military commissar promised to issue a certificate only if he provided coupons for a thousand liters of diesel fuel, which cost approximately $1,500.
During the search of the official’s office, fuel cards for more than a thousand liters of diesel fuel and gasoline were seized. The military commissar was served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for up to 10 years in prison.
Currently, the pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and a motion for a preventive measure and removal from office has been filed with the court.
The website of the Ternopil Regional TCC and JV states that a pre-trial investigation is currently underway against the head of one of the territorial centers for recruitment and social support.
On October 21, 2024, in the center of Ternopil, on Ruska Street, employees of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation and the Specialized Defense Prosecutor’s Office of the Western Region conducted investigative actions. In the course of these actions, material evidence relevant to the investigation was seized from the official. The pre-trial investigation is currently underway.
