In Ukraine, several corruption schemes related to the evasion of conscription by men liable for military service have been exposed. Participants in these schemes helped men avoid being drafted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine through fictitious documents and enrolment in training.

  1. Kyiv: Police and the SBU detained a college vice-principal and two lecturers who were enrolling men in postgraduate courses “backwards” for money ($5,000-10,000),000 USD) enrolled men in postgraduate studies ” retroactively”, which allowed them to get a deferral from mobilisation and travel abroad.

  3. Cherkasy: Two medical workers were detained in Cherkasy region, who were issuing fictitious medical certificates for persons liable for military service, which declared them unfit for service. The cost of such a service was $2000.

The detainees are charged with obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and abuse of influence. They face up to eight years in prison.
