General Christopher Cavoli, the commander of the U.S. Army in Europe, has handed over to Congress a list of weapons that Ukraine has repeatedly requested to more effectively counter Russian aggression, CNN reports. The list includes JASSM missiles for F-16 fighters, which can hit targets at a distance of up to 370 km, and the Link 16 communication system. The latter is important for ensuring uninterrupted data exchange between combat systems, which can enhance Ukraine’s ability to command and control air and missile defense systems.
Cavoli’s list did not specify why the United States has not yet provided Ukraine with such assistance. The publication notes that the reasons for the US refusal to transfer these systems may be due to fears that the technology could fall into Russian hands. In addition, the JASSM missiles may not bring the expected result if Ukraine does not gain air superiority. The list of weapons was presented to Congress in early September as part of a classified report on the Joe Biden administration’s strategy for Ukraine.
