The Secretary of the Committee on National Security and Defence of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and formerAlpha special forces officer Roman Kostenko commented on Radio NV on the rumours about the possible resignation of the head of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine , Kyrylo Budanov.
In his opinion, from the point of view of the professional duties of the head of the intelligence service, there can be no complaints about his work. However, the Office of the President of Ukraine may be irritated by Budanov ‘s popularity among Ukrainians and the fact that he publicly explains the real situation in defence, that he publicly explains the real situation in the defence sector.
“The President’s Office has difficult relations with anyone who has any recognition and popularity among Ukrainians,” he said.
Commenting on the allegedly atypical publicity for an intelligence off icer, he noted that this is actually a new global trend, and even the intelligence chiefs of the UK and the US give joint briefings and statements.
“I don’t know whether he plans a political future, we will see after the war. And now he definitely does not plan to implement them,” said Roman Kostenko.
