Russian propaganda channel Mash reported on the alleged suspension of the exchange of of prisoners and dead between Russia and Ukraine for an indefinite period. The reason for this is the alleged attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on theKolotylivka checkpoint, where exchanges have been taking place since 2022.
According to the sources of Research and Analysis Group InfoLight.UA, Russia is trying to use humanitarian issues to stop the military operation currently underway in the Kursk region.
According to Mash, the Ukrainian military allegedly fired shells, allegedly from a T-84U tank, and attacked the checkpoint with kamikaze drones. As a result of the attack , the checkpoint allegedly burned to the ground.
However, experts from InfoLight.UA experts note that such actions by the Russian Federation are a blatant violation of the rules of warfare and the Geneva Convention.
“Russia is once again trying to manipulate humanitarian issues to achieve its military goals. Using prisoner exchange as a tool of pressure is unacceptable and contrary to international humanitarian law.”
We remind you that according to the Geneva Convention, parties to a conflict are obliged to ensure humane treatment of prisoners of war and facilitate their return, regardless of the military situation.
InfoLight.UA continues to monitor developments and verify information from various sources.
