Policy objective
The purpose of this policy is to establish clear principles and procedures for identifying, verifying and countering disinformation within the framework of InfoLight.UA. We strive to ensure the high quality of the information we provide to our audience and contribute to the improvement of media literacy in society.
Definition of disinformation
InfoLight.UA understands disinformation as intentionally created and disseminated false or misleading information that can harm society, individuals or organizations. We also distinguish between disinformation and misinformation (unintentional dissemination of false information).
Principles of countering disinformation
- Impartiality: We apply the same standards of verification to all allegations, regardless of their source or political orientation.
- Transparency: We openly publish our fact-checking methodology and the sources of information we use to verify claims.
- A comprehensive approach: We look at disinformation in context, analyzing its potential impact and motives for spreading it.
- Educational component: We not only refute disinformation, but also explain how to recognize it and check it yourself.
Methodology for detecting and verifying disinformation
- Selection of allegations for verification: We select allegations based on their potential impact, prevalence and relevance to our audience.
- Verification of primary sources: We always strive to find and verify primary sources of information.
- Consultations with experts: When necessary, we consult with experts in the relevant fields to obtain a competent opinion.
- Using AI: we use neural networks to track and tackle disinformation
- Use of OSINT: We actively use OSINT (Open Source Intelligence) methods and tools to verify information.
- Contacting the authors of the allegations: Where possible, we contact the authors of the allegations to obtain additional evidence or comment.
Publication of inspection results
- Clear labeling: All fact-checking materials are clearly labeled as such.
- Detailed explanation: We provide a detailed explanation of our review process and findings.
- Rating system: We use a transparent rating system to assess the veracity of statements.
- Possibility of appeal: We provide an opportunity for authors of verified allegations to challenge our findings if they have additional evidence.
Countering the spread of disinformation
- Cooperation with platforms: We work with social media and other online platforms to limit the spread of verified disinformation.
- Educational initiatives: We conduct trainings and create educational materials on media literacy and critical thinking.
