To begin with: The situation with the energy infrastructure in Ukraine after the enemy’s missile attacks is extremely dynamic, and therefore something written the minute you read this text may be irrelevant in an hour. Accordingly, in these circumstances, you should not immediately panic when any negative information appears, and even more so, you should not immediately spread the news about the most negative scenario.
Today, on December 10, after 19:00, various media outlets began to report that “it will take much longer to restore power facilities in Odesa Oblast than in previous times after enemy shelling. The authorities say it may take up to 2-3 months”.
The news is linked to the Facebook pages of DTEK Odesa Power Grids and the Department of Life Support Systems and Energy Efficiency of Odesa Regional State Administration. Both pages are official.
However.
As of 22:15, DTEK’s website does not contain any such information.
At 22:00, a video was posted on this page, which talks about the difficult situation, but there is no information about 2-3 months.
At approximately 16:00, the page Department of Life Support Systems and Energy Efficiency of Odesa Regional State Administration published a video message from Volodymyr Karpych, Deputy Director of the Department of Life Support Systems and Energy Efficiency of Odesa Regional State Administration, on the current state of affairs in the energy supply sector. which also says nothing about 2-3 months.
The video address of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy also says nothing about 2-3 months. Although there is a statement of a very difficult situation.
Thus, as of 22:00 on December 10, 2022, it is groundless and irresponsible to disseminate information that “it will take much longer to restore power facilities in Odesa region than in previous times after enemy shelling. We are not talking about days, but even weeks and it is possible that it will take 2-3 months.”
We urge journalists not to do this!
P.S. This does not mean that information may come out later that will change the situation. However, let’s remember that the goal of enemy strikes is to sow panic among Ukrainians.
Important!
After this article was published, information appeared that fully confirmed our conclusions:
DTEK in Odesa region emphasizes that the maximum period of 2-3 months refers to the full restoration of high-voltage networks and substations, not to the electricity supply to residents.
